In Santería and the Yoruba religion, bear oil (which today is usually a blend of natural oils such as castor, almond, and olive oil, and not actual animal fat) is used primarily for spiritual and magical purposes related to protection, strength, and the fixing of intentions.
Although it is very popular in cosmetics (hair growth), in the esoteric context of Santería and the Orisha/Palo rule, it is attributed the following uses:
Protection and Spiritual Shield: It is used to anoint candles and personal objects to create a barrier against envy, witchcraft, and bad influences. It is considered a heavy oil that "seals" and protects.
Attraction and Strength: Being associated with the strength of the bear, it is used in rituals to gain mastery in difficult situations, obtain courage, or increase physical and spiritual strength.
Fixing Works: It serves to "fix" the intentions of a spell or petition, ensuring that the goal is fulfilled and does not fade away.
