Eruke or Natural Black Horsetail with Handle

Approx. 54" long. The iruke or horse tail in Santería is a sacred tool of power used primarily to sweep away negative influences, cleanse energies, and perform blessings. It acts as an instrument of authority for orishas such as Obatalá, Oduduwa (white) or Oyá (black), helping to ward off witchcraft and attract good fortune. 

• Energy Cleansing: It is used to sprinkle consecrated waters or "omieros" over people to purify their aura.
• Defense and Authority: Orishas and santeros use it to combat witchcraft and protect against dark spirits.

Orishas that use Iruke (Horse Tail)

• Obatalá: Uses a white iruke, a symbol of purity, wisdom, and supreme authority.
• Oyá: It is a fundamental tool of Oyá, usually made of black horsehair, used to move the air, invoke the dead (eggun), and cleanse energies.
• Orunmila (Orula): Babalawos use the iruke to cleanse and mark the board during divination.
• Yemayá and Oshún: They also use irukes, often decorated with beads in their colors (blue/white for Yemayá, yellow/gold for Oshún).
• Shangó: Uses an iruke, often with the handle covered in red and white beads, representing his royalty.
• Elegguá: It is associated with him for cleansing and opening paths
