Guira Maraca With Wooden Handle 9" X 4"

The natural güira (also known as güiro or calabash) in Santería (the Orisha-Ifá tradition) is a sacred ritual instrument, not merely a musical one. Its primary function is to invoke, call upon, and communicate with the Orishas and spirits, facilitating the connection between the earthly and spiritual worlds.

• Ceremonial Calling: It is used in drumming sessions, ceremonies, and offerings to announce the arrival or request the presence of a deity, especially during "güiro sessions".
• Accompaniment in Chants and Dances: It sets the rhythm during liturgical chants and the dances of the Orishas.
