Ori Butter (known in English as Shea Butter and commonly called shea butter) is a fundamental element in Santería (Regla de Ocha) and Yoruba spiritual traditions, used primarily for spirituality, balance, and protection.
Head Prayers (Bóri): This is its most important use. Ori butter is applied to the person's head, hands, and feet during bóri ceremonies to cool, calm, and strengthen the Ori (the spiritual head/destiny).
Cooling the Head (Ori): It is used to relieve spiritual tension, mental burden, stress, and to balance the person's energy when they are "hot" or unstable.
Cleanings and Spiritual Works: It is used in various rituals to clear negative energies and bring peace, clarity, and tranquility to the religious person's life.
Consecration and Care of Saints: It is used to anoint and care for the surface of certain deities (orishas) and sacred tools, keeping them "cool"
