Medieval Wives

In Santería (the Orisha-Ifá tradition), handcuffs are a ritual tool laden with symbolism, primarily associated with the Warrior Orishas, especially Oggún.

• Tool of Oggún: Metal handcuffs are placed inside Oggún's cauldron, the Orisha of iron and war. They represent his authority over law and order, as well as his power to capture or subdue negative energies.
• Opening Paths: They are often accompanied by a symbolic key. While the handcuffs represent blocking or binding, the key symbolizes the Orisha's ability to release spiritual obstacles and "open the paths" for the practitioner.
• Justice and Control: They are used to seek protection in legal problems or situations where control over an enemy or an adverse circumstance is needed.
• Spiritual Protection: As part of the tools of the Warriors (Eleguá, Oggún, Oshosi, and Osun), they serve to "bind" bad influences or prevent evil from entering the devotee's home or life
