In the Yoruba syncretism in Cuba, the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre, patron saint of the island, is syncretized with Oshún (or Ochún), the orisha of love, beauty, fertility, fresh waters (rivers, springs) and wealth, representing a fusion of the Catholic faith and Yoruba beliefs where devotees honor both figures at the same time, especially on September 8, sharing attributes such as the color yellow, gold, sunflowers and sweetness.
