Yemayá (or Yemoja) is one of the orishas in the Yoruba religion, considered the mother of all orishas, the goddess of fertility, and the mistress of the seas, oceans, and rivers. She represents motherhood, the protection of children, and the creation of life.

• Meaning: Her name comes from the Yoruba "Yeyé omo ejá", which means "Mother whose children are the fish".
• Main Role: She is the protector of women (especially pregnant women), families, and fishermen. She is associated with salt water and the moon.
• Characteristics: She is maternal, loving, and protective, but when she becomes angry, she can be as destructive and violent as the waves of the sea.
• Syncretism: In Afro-Cuban religion, she is often syncretized with Our Lady of Regla.
• Symbols: She is represented with mermaids, shells, and elements of the sea.
