In Santería (Regla de Ocha), the bamboo bow and arrow are one of the most powerful and significant tools of the orisha Ochosi. They primarily represent Ochosi, the orisha of hunting, symbolizing precision, justice, the pursuit of goals, and protection against negativity. They are used to open paths, achieve stability, defend the oppressed, and expedite legal matters.

Although Ochosi's bow and arrow are traditionally made of iron or metal (as part of the warriors), the bamboo or wooden version is widely used in Santería for specific purposes.

  • Representation and Energy Charging (Ebbó): They are used to direct energy, hunt for good fortune, or remove obstacles and enemies.
  • Justice and Protection: They are employed to invoke Ochosi's protection against injustice, especially for people with legal problems or those who are incarcerated.
  • Offering on the Altar: They are placed on the warriors' altar (alongside Oggún) as an offering to ensure that paths are clear and efforts are rewarded with success.
  • Abundance and Balance: Bamboo, in a more spiritual context, represents righteousness, strength, and the ability to adapt to overcome obstacles, attracting personal growth
